Position Description

The Prison Arts Collective is dedicated to collaborating to facilitate creative arts and writing in prisons. We are committed to supporting the development of self-expression, reflection, communication, and empathy. We believe in the capacity of art to expand make a difference in how we see and understand ourselves and the world around us. Successful candidates are provided with guidance and training, opportunities for growth, and a positive and inspired work environment.

This pivotal role is responsible for facilitating classes in our weekly programs in prisons. Teaching Artists work as a collaborative team, leading simultaneous classes once a week at assigned site. The teaching team enters and leaves the prison together. Some incarcerated participants teach with our team.

Employment Status: Temporary, "non-exempt", non-benefited position through July 31, 2017 (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funding, availability of work and satisfactory job performance).

Work Schedule: 4-16 hours per week, 30 minutes paid prep (including meetings) per 3.5 hour teaching session. Location is off campus at various prison sites. The prisons are the designated work sites.
